On February 25th, 2024, S.M. Jaleel continued its celebration of the significant milestone of its 100th Anniversary by recognizing World Wetlands Day 2024 with a meaningful clean-up campaign and bird watching tour at the Caroni Swamp and Bird Sanctuary!

Hosted by our dedicated HSE Department, the event brought together 76 enthusiastic volunteers, including our devoted employees, their families, and friends. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Forestry Division and Kalpoo’s Bird Sanctuary Tours for facilitating this enriching experience.

Together, we embarked on a mission to preserve the beauty of our wetlands, focusing on the mangrove fringes along the swamp’s main entry border. Our efforts resulted in the collection of over 250 pounds of waste, with a significant portion comprising plastic bottles, glass, and cans.

But it wasn’t just about cleaning up; it was also about appreciating the wonders of nature. We were treated to an unforgettable boat tour, marvelling at the graceful flamingos, and witnessing the breathtaking sight of our national bird, the Scarlet Ibis, returning to roost as the sunset.

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this day a success! Let’s continue to cherish and protect our precious wetlands for generations to come. Together, we can make a difference!
